AI adoption to boost demand for data storage
Half of Singaporeans expect their organisations' cloud storage needs to double by 2028.
AI adoption is expected to increase demand for data storage, in particular cloud-based storage, a survey commissioned by Seagate Technology revealed.
Analyst firm IDC said that with hard drives offering cost-efficient scalability, 89% of data stored by top cloud providers is on hard drives. Seagate said that nearly two-thirds of companies they surveyed are using cloud storage and expect their usage to double within three years, highlighting the growing reliance on cloud services for AI-driven data growth.
Seagate estimates that 53% of Singapore respondents who predominately use cloud storage say their cloud-based storage will increase by over 100% over the next 3 years, compared to 61% of global respondents.
Meanwhile, 85% of Singapore businesses who’ve adopted AI technology believe longer data retention improves the quality of AI outcomes, compared to 90% globally.
90% of Singaporean respondents who use AI today believe the adoption of Trustworthy AI requires an increased need to store more data for longer periods.
