Massive tech glitches cost local firms $1.3b in 2014

8 out of 10 firms have no data protection strategy.

Unplanned downtimes brought about by faulty data protection systems cost Singapore firms a staggering $1.3b (US$1b) this year, according to the EMC Global Data Protection Systems Index.

The report revealed that 8 out of 10 firms in the country use few, if any, modern data protection methods. These firms have prolonged recovery periods after disruption and are the most likely to suffer from systems downtime and data loss.

Over five out of ten or 52% of firms have experienced unplanned systems downtime, while a massive 70% of local companies doubt that they can fully recover in the event of a disruption.

The top three causes of disruption are hardware failure, software failure, and loss of power. Disruptions cause loss of employee productivity, loss of revenue, and delay in product or service development.

Singapore is ranked fourth out of 24 countries when it comes to maturity of data protection approaches, behind top-ranked Mainland China, second seed Hong Kong, and third placer Netherlands.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
