Singapore amongst most concerned over AI-driven digital fraud

84% of respondents said they were worried about fake digital IDs generated using AI, compared to 76% globally.

Singapore consumers are amongst the most concerned globally about AI-powered fraud, with fears significantly outpacing the global average across multiple digital threat areas, according to a new survey by Jumio.

In Singapore, 84% of respondents said they were worried about fake digital IDs generated using AI, compared to 76% globally.

Scam emails designed to steal passwords or money raised concerns for 82% of Singaporeans, whilst 83% feared video and voice deepfakes, both higher than the respective global averages of 75% and 74%.

Concern over manipulated social media content was also elevated, with 81% of Singaporeans expressing worry versus 72% globally.

The findings reflect heightened anxiety in Singapore over the rise of generative AI and its potential to facilitate impersonation, misinformation, and identity theft.

Globally, 75% of consumers said they are worried about being deceived by deepfakes, whilst 71% believe AI is making it easier for criminals to steal identities.

Jumio noted that 73% of respondents said they are more likely to trust businesses that use advanced identity verification tools, such as biometrics and AI-driven systems.
