Singapore firms loosen AI controls amid security gaps

Delinea flags machine-identity blind spots.

Nearly all organisations in Singapore are under pressure to loosen identity security controls to support artificial intelligence initiatives, even as many report gaps in visibility, governance, and traceability, according to Delinea research.

The identity security company said 95% of Singapore respondents faced pressure to relax AI controls, above the 90% global level, whilst 93% reported at least one identity visibility gap, with the biggest blind spots tied to machine and non-human identities, such as AI agents.

The study also pointed to weak oversight of privileged actions, with 86% saying they could not always explain why a non-human identity performed a privileged action.

Only 14% said they were always able to explain why an AI agent took such an action, below the 20% global average.

Delinea said the findings exposed an AI security confidence paradox in Singapore. Whilst 87% of respondents said their identity security posture was ready to support AI-driven automation, 47% also admitted their governance around AI systems was deficient.

The company added that 58% of Singapore organisations lacked viable alternatives to standing privileged access for non-human identities and AI agents, raising the risk of persistent permissions being exploited.

The research was based on a global survey of 2,001 IT decision-makers actively using or piloting AI, including respondents in Singapore.
