Pharmaceuticals output up 21%

Biomedical manufacturing output expanded 19.5% in December.

The Singapore Economic Development Board reported:

Output of the biomedical manufacturing cluster expanded 19.5% in December 2012 compared to the same period a year ago.

The pharmaceuticals segment climbed 21.0%, mainly due to a different mix of active pharmaceutical ingredients being produced.

Robust export demand for medical devices drove the medical technology segment to record a gain of 11.8%.

On a year-to-date basis, output of the biomedical manufacturing cluster increased 9.9%, compared to the same period a year ago.
