SPH Media taps Google AI to power newsroom systems

It also expands verification training across editorial teams.

SPH Media and Google have partnered to advance artificial intelligence (AI) capability building, content and distribution, talent and ecosystem development, and audience engagement.

In a press release, SPH Media said the partnership will focus on integrating AI into its newsrooms, including training in generative AI (Gen AI) verification for investigative research and editorial fact-checking.

It will also support the implementation of AI-enabled workflows and responsible AI use in editorial operations.

SPH Media will strengthen integration with Google’s distribution channels to widen and accelerate content reach, whilst introducing new advertising formats to target new audiences and increase engagement.

A News Incubator Programme will develop journalism talent from local schools and universities, building a pipeline of young content creators and a community of AI-literate participants to support news amplification and verification.

Kuek Yu Chuang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SPH Media, said the partnership supports the organisation’s use of technology in journalism and audience engagement.

Ben King, Country Managing Director for Google Singapore, said the collaboration supports the use of Gen AI tools in newsrooms and the development of journalism talent.
