MDDI launches public consultation on amendments to the PSGA

This is to enhance data usage and deliver better services to Singaporeans.

The Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) is seeking public feedback on the proposed amendments to the Public Sector (Governance) Act (PSGA). The amendments aim to enhance the use of data to deliver better services to Singaporeans.

The PSGA, introduced in 2018, provides a clear legal basis for data sharing across the public sector. It also lists criminal offences to hold individual public officers responsible and accountable for the proper handling of data.

One of the amendments that MDDI proposed includes authorising external partners that work closely with public sector agencies. The proposed amendment will provide a clear legal basis under the existing seven purposes supporting public interest, for public agencies to share data with these partners.

MDDI also intends to put in place proper authorisation and strong safeguards, including new criminal offences.

MDDI is also considering another amendment to clarify that the public sector may use internally the data which they are allowed to share with other public sector agencies, under the same legal basis.

The public consultation for these amendments will run until 2 September 2025, 5 pm.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
