SG, US to launch new phase of regional energy collaboration

The two countries will form a workgroup to further the study's objectives.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry and the United States Department of Energy have agreed on the next phase of the United States-Singapore Feasibility Study on Regional Energy Connectivity under the Net Zero World Initiative.

Following the initial phase, which began on 3 April 2023, both countries will now proceed with the "Study on Legal and Financing Frameworks for Regional Energy Connectivity in Southeast Asia." This phase will involve more partner countries and explore key frameworks to advance regional energy integration.

Moreover, the two governments announced the formation of a workgroup to further the study’s objectives in the context of the ASEAN Power Grid.

The workgroup will bring together regional countries and multilateral partners, engaging both public and private stakeholders from various energy sectors. The platform will facilitate the exchange of best practices, knowledge sharing, and contributions to the development of the ASEAN Power Grid.

The next phase of the study will formally commence during the Singapore International Energy Week this October, with a focus on enhancing regional energy cooperation and achieving sustainability goals.
