SG60: Singapore launches new state-funded traineeship programme

This will be for ITE, polytechnic, and university graduates.

Singapore will launch a new government-funded traineeship programme for Institute of Technical Education (ITE), polytechnic, and university graduates, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said at the National Day Rally.

The new traineeship programme will address the growing concerns about finding jobs, especially with current economic uncertainties.

Wong said the new programme will be done with a more focused rollout, and it will be scaled up should the economy worsen.

Wong also said that the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme, intended for those 40 and above, will also see enhancements.

This programme was introduced in 2024, and they get $4,000 in SkillsFuture credits and training allowances of up to $3,000 per month for up to 24 months.

The first enhancement is to allow a portion of the training allowance to be claimed for part-time courses.

Second is to expand the course offerings.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
