ST Engineering wins two LTA contracts for Thomson-East Coast Line Extension

Both contracts begin in Q3 2025.

ST Engineering has announced that its Urban Solutions business has secured two contracts from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to provide rail electronics for the Thomson-East Coast Line Extension (TELe), which will add four stations to Singapore’s MRT network.

Under the first contract, ST Engineering will supply the communications and access management systems.

The second contract, awarded to a consortium with Alstom, covers the data communication system and platform screen doors (PSDs). Alstom will supply its Urbalis™ signalling system.

Both contracts are slated to commence in the third quarter of 2025. The scope of the work includes system upgrades at existing East-West Line stations – Tanah Merah, Expo, and Changi Airport – and deployment at the upcoming Changi Airport Terminal 5 station.

The communications and data systems provided by ST Engineering will serve as the digital backbone of TELe’s operations, enabling real-time coordination between trains, stations, and operation control centres. The access management system will enhance the security of critical areas such as the train operation control centre.

In addition, over 230 sets of PSDs will be installed across the four stations to serve as both safety barriers and environmental controls, helping to retain cooled air in underground stations.

The 14-kilometre TELe is part of Singapore’s Land Transport Master Plan 2040. Three of its stations will be converted from the East-West Line. Once complete, the extension will connect Changi Airport directly to the city centre.

These wins add to ST Engineering’s 2025 contracts, including work on the Cross Island Line and a mobile network upgrade for the Downtown Line.

The company has delivered over 200 rail projects in more than 50 cities worldwide.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
