TMT and Retail are top targeted industries for cyberattacks in Singapore, says Ensign Infosecurity
Data breaches and ransom were the top types of cyberattacks in Singapore.
In its latest Cyber Threat Landscape Report for 2025, Ensign InfoSecurity highlighted that the top targeted industry groups for cyberattacks in Singapore were technology, media and telecommunications (TMT); retail; and banking, finance and insurance (BFI).
Singapore’s hospitality industry is also seeing a rise in cyberattacks.
The report noted that organised crime groups are the predominant threat groups targeting Singapore. These crime groups are motivated by financial gain, as Singapore is recognised as an international financial hub.
State-sponsored and hacktivist threat groups’ activities that target the country have also risen. These attacks were largely fuelled by the increasing geopolitical and trade tensions and the significance of Singapore’s role in international trade.
The top notable cyberattack effects were data breaches, ransom, and denial of service.
Singapore observed the highest variety of ransomware variants targeting the territory in 2024. According to the report, this could be due to threat actors exploiting Singapore’s position as a financial hub for financial gain.
Separately, both ransomware groups and state-sponsored threat groups may also be exploiting Singapore’s digital infrastructure as test beds for their eventual targets of other digitally advanced territories, and to exploit Singapore’s trusted economy as a supply chain pathway to gain access to other targets, whether in Singapore or elsewhere.
