Singapore inks intellectual property deal with Brazil

Framework takes effect in 5 years.

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore and Instituto Nacional Da Propriedade Industrial have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides an umbrella framework for collaboration between the two countries to strengthen intellectual property cooperation in the coming 5 years.

Under the agreement, parties will explore activities that encourage exchange of information, best practices, and knowledge on various IP-related issues. When implemented, businesses of both countries can benefit from expedited patent registration, and greater sharing of IP business best practices for Small and Medium Enterprises through joint participation of IP conferences and events.

Mr Jorge Avila, President of INPI said,"This agreement underscores the importance of building collaborative links between Brazil and Singapore, as well as the new ways both regions are looking at to help citizens and businesses protect their intellectual property."

BG Tan Yih San, IPOS' Chief Executive said,"The signing of this MOU marks a new beginning in the bilateral relationship between the two IP offices. When implemented, it will deliver faster and more efficient IP services to the business communities of both countries. Singapore business owners will benefit from the network of South American markets, and have more direct access to business opportunities in Brazil."

The implementation of the activities under the MOU builds on prior efforts undertaken by Singapore to engage our Latin American counterparts, and is envisaged to be part of the broader efforts to create potential trade opportunities and extend business reach of our markets.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
