Chart of the Day: 2 in 5 HDB upgraders bought homes priced at $1-1.5m in 2018

More home upgraders opted for units priced from $1.5-2.5m.

This chart from Edmund Tie & Company (ETCo) shows that 39.8% of HDB upgraders in 2018 bought condo units priced $1-1.5m, which is lower compared to the 42.1% who opted for condo units with the same price range in 2017.

Meanwhile, 39.3% of HDB upgraders opted for condo units priced $1m and below. Moreover, more HDB upgraders went for higher price rangers as sales transactions for units priced $1.5-2m went up from 13.2% to 14.9% in 2018 whilst those ranging from $2-2.5m comprised 3.9% of the transactions from 3.2% in 2017.

ETCo noted that buyers with HDB addresses accounted for 35.1% in 2018, down from 38.8 % in 2017. Moreover, the cooling measures impacted them as buying demand from HDB upgraders crashed 20.2% to 6,787 units in 2018.
