Chart of the Day: Malaysians bought less condos from fringe districts in 2019

It still remained the top foreign homebuyer in the region after China.

This chart from EDMUND TIE reveals that the share of Malaysians who bought condos in suburban and city fringe districts shrank to 19% in 2019, compared to 24% in 2018. Despite that, the country still remained the second biggest homebuyers in the region.

China still remained the top homebuyer in the district, capturing 28% of transactions. After the Malaysians are Indonesians with 14% of all sales.

Island-wide, the proportion of foreigner buyers saw a slight uptick in the last two quarters of 2019 at 7% per quarter. Mainland Chinese buyers contributed the highest proportion of condos sold to foreigner, followed by Malaysia and India.
