Fast food outlets beat restaurants with a 5.6% increase in sales

Sales of restaurants declined 0.8% in August.

According to Department of Statistics Singapore, sales of food & beverage services (seasonally adjusted) increased 1.4% in August 2012 compared to the previous month.

Compared to a year ago, sales of food & beverage services rose 6% in August 2012.

After seasonal adjustment, receipts of fast food outlets and other eating places (such as cafes and canteens) increased 5.6% and 3.1% respectively in August 2012 over July 2012.

On the other hand, receipts of restaurants and food caterers declined 0.8% and 0.6% respectively over the same period.

Year-on-Year Change
Compared to August 2011, food caterers recorded an 8.2% increase in receipts in August 2012. Turnover of other eating places, fast food outlets and restaurants also rose between  4.4% and 6.7% over a year ago.
