MPA renews BV partnership on digital and green tech

It will focus on emerging technologies such as cybersecurity standards, new battery systems, and fuel cell integration.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Bureau Veritas (BV) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration in maritime digitalisation, decarbonisation, and talent development.

In a joint statement, the two organisations announced that the renewed partnership would include efforts to explore the establishment of a BV global innovation hub in Singapore.

The proposed hub would focus on emerging technologies such as cybersecurity standards, new battery systems, and fuel cell integration, with applications expected to extend beyond the maritime sector.

BV and MPA will also continue working on digital and decarbonisation initiatives, including smart ship systems, the use of artificial intelligence for vessel inspection, and robotics for in-water operations.

Additional focus areas include alternative propulsion methods and low- or zero-emission fuels, aimed at enhancing Singapore’s MarineTech ecosystem.

Workforce development is another priority. Bureau Veritas will remain active in industry manpower programmes such as the MPA Global Internship Award and the MaritimeONE Internship and Scholarship Programmes.

The collaboration is intended to help build a pipeline of skilled maritime professionals to support the sector’s evolving needs.
