New MPA digital platform to support maritime fuel training

The platform also enables tracking of certifications and ensures compliance with evolving international standards.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has unveiled a new digital platform under its Maritime Energy Training Facility (METF) to support the global maritime workforce in training to handle alternative marine fuels and emerging technologies safely.

The METF Digital Platform is a centralised system that allows maritime professionals to search for, register for, and manage training courses with ease.

It also enables tracking of certifications and ensures compliance with evolving international standards. The prototype, currently being tested with industry pilot users, is expected to launch in the second half of 2025.

Initially available to Singapore-based companies and Singapore-registered vessels, the platform will expand to international users in future phases.

MPA is also actively contributing to international efforts to standardise training for alternative fuels. In February, it submitted draft guidelines to the International Maritime Organization for handling methanol and ammonia.
