Singtel unveils pilot testing of 10Gbps fibre connection service

A 50GB video can be downloaded in a minute.

Singtel revealed that it will soon deploy a 10Gbps fibre broadband connection service for its residential customers.

The Next Generation GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) service will be tested on its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in the next quarter, with plans to make the service available to all fibre customers in the later part of the year.

Singtel says that the new technology will allow users to download 50GB HD video can be downloaded within a minute using a 10Gbps line.

The maximum bandwidth currently available to customers is 1Gbps on Singtel’s Unlimited Fibre plan.
