Low-emission GrabCab launched in Singapore

The service is intended to complement existing private-hire vehicles and increase accessibility for groups who do not use smartphones or mobile data.

Grab has introduced GrabCab in Singapore, adding a new taxi option to the country’s point-to-point transport landscape, marking the first new taxi fleet to enter the market in seven years.

The service is intended to complement existing private-hire vehicles and increase accessibility for groups such as seniors, tourists, and commuters who do not use smartphones or mobile data.

The GrabCab fleet includes low-emission vehicles such as the Toyota Prius and Hyundai Kona, with plans to expand the fleet using additional environmentally friendly models.

Each vehicle is equipped with in-vehicle technology, including artificial intelligence tools that monitor road conditions and driver behaviour. A mobile data terminal is also installed to support fare calculation and trip tracking.

Fares start at $4.60, consistent with existing taxi fare structures.

GrabCab includes several features aimed at supporting drivers. These include up to 10 days of medical leave, access to a relief driver matching platform, instant payout of earnings, and a safe driving bonus of up to $3,000 over a three-year period. A separate incentive programme, “Save As You Drive,” offers up to $5 per day in additional earnings.

Drivers are offered rental packages starting at $106.20 per day, with potential reductions to $95.70 per day through incentives.

Additional benefits include discounts of up to 31% on fuel at Caltex, 25% off EV charging rates, and access to GrabBenefits 2.0, which includes healthcare credits, education sponsorships, and vocational license support.

Insurance coverage is provided, offering up to $45,000 in medical expense coverage and up to $289,000 for accidental death or disability. The plan also includes support for vehicle maintenance and repair.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
