Golden Agri-Resources net profit jumps 47% in Q1

It was driven by higher crude palm oil (CPO) prices.

Golden Agri-Resources Ltd (GAR) reported a 47% surge in net profit to $71.48m (US$55m) in the first quarter of 2025.

The increase was driven by higher crude palm oil (CPO) prices, which rose 27% to an average of $1,503 per tonne (US$1,156), and improved plantation output.

Revenue grew 19% to $3.95b (US$3.04b) despite lower sales volumes. EBITDA rose 12% to $336.52m (US$259m) with an 8.5% margin, whilst underlying profit increased to $115.57m (US$89m).

CEO Franky Widjaja said palm oil production is recovering after extreme weather disruptions, which may ease supply tightness. However, geopolitical uncertainty and trade tensions will continue to affect market conditions, supporting CPO prices in the near term.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
