5 new plans Singapore is brewing to expand, boost Changi Airport

Total capacity eyed to double to 132m.

According to DBS, there are plans to upgrade and expand Changi Airport with the revamp of T1, new terminals T4 and T5, and an additional runway will double the airport’s total capacity to 132m passengers by 2023.

Clear winners are MRO players - SIA Engg, ST Engineering, while SATS may face more competition from new entrants. Construction of these mega projects costing >S$1.5bn will raise construction demand, benefiting specialist contractor like Yong Nam and building material supplier Pan United.

Here's more from DBS:

The Prime Minister outlined plans to expand and upgrade Changi Airport. Along with existing plans, these include:

1. A new ‘Jewel’ project at Changi Terminal 1,

2. Continuous upgrading of the existing 3 Terminals,

3. Terminal 4 being built on the site of the previous budget terminal and to be completed by 2017,

4. A third runway by 2020 and

5. Terminal 5 with an annual handling capacity of (at least) 50m passengers to be built by the mid 2020s.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
