Daily Briefing: High costs derail cafe entrepreneurs; SIA jet loses power mid-flight

  • According to figures from Singapore's Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, nearly half of the 369 cafes that opened shop in 2011 have since pulled down the shutters. Of the 391 which registered last year, almost 100 have exited the market. Read more here.
  • Over the weekend, Singapore Airlines Flight 836, flying from Singapore to Shanghai, lost power mid-flight on both of its Rolls-Royce engines. According to Flightradar 24, the Airbus A330-343 experienced the problem while cruising at 39,000 feet. Find out more here.
