CapitaLand, IMDA, ESG launch SEA's first industry-led smart cities solutions lab

CapitaLand has committed up to $10m for the new, Singapore-based laboratory.

The Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab, Southeast Asia’s first industry-led lab for smart cities solutions development located at CaptiaLand’s 5G-enabled Singapore Science Park, has been officially opened today.

The lab was initiated by CapitaLand and supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Enterprise Singapore (ESG). Minister for Communications and Information S. Iswaran launched the lab.

The Smart Urban Co-Innovation Lab aims to bring together leaders in the smart cities space to co-create and test innovations with local built environment and technology enterprises in a live environment, according to the press release.

CapitaLand, together with its industry partners, has committed up to $10m in the lab.

The lab is expected to benefit some 200 companies in Singapore over the next three years. It is located  at The Galen at Singapore Science Park and is envisioned to be ‘a key nexus of business partnerships and opportunities’, the announcement added.

It has already secured 30 industry players that include Amazon Web Services, Cisco Systems, Johnson Controls, Microsoft, MooVita, amongst other. Partners will team up with local firms and co-innovate, test ideas in the lab or pilot trials at the 55-hectare Singapore Science Park.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
