Gov’t launches sustainable indoor air-conditioning initiative

It encourages sustainable cooling by setting indoor air-conditioning at 25°C.

The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) launched the Go 25 initiative to encourage sustainable cooling by setting indoor air-conditioning at 25°C.

A study, in partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Centre for Environmental Sustainability, showed energy savings of up to 12% for each degree raised in air-conditioning temperatures from 23°C to 25°C in offices.

Additional energy savings can be achieved when air-conditioning temperatures are set above 25°C.

In line with this, the government also introduced the Go 25 Pledge—a voluntary industry commitment to sustainable cooling.

This initiative urges concerned entities to commit to setting indoor temperatures at 25°C or higher, adjusting temperature gradually to ease the transition for occupants, and
providing cooling alternatives.
