HDB expands cool coatings initiative islandwide
Smart electrical sub-meters will also be installed.
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) will include all existing HDB estates islandwide in its cool coatings initiative as its 10-year Green Towns Programme reaches its mid-point in 2025.
In 2021, HDB and Tampines Town Council launched a joint pilot project to apply cool coatings to approximately 130 HDB blocks in Tampines. Findings showed that cool coatings reduced ambient temperatures of up to 2°C.
Besides a cooler environment, residents living in blocks painted with cool coatings also experienced reduced electricity consumption.
Additionally, smart electrical sub-meters will be installed in the consumer switch rooms of HDB blocks. It will enable HDB and Town Councils to monitor and analyse energy consumption patterns.
With this data, Town Councils can compare energy usage across HDB blocks to optimise their maintenance cycles of common services and detect anomalies to minimise downtime.
