Sembcorp breaks ground for expansion of 1,000-hectare industrial park in Vietnam
The sustainable industrial park is located in Binh Duong Province of Vietnam.
Sembcorp Development, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, broke ground for the third expansion of the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam, namely, VSIP Binh Duong III.
In a statement, Sembcorp said the groundbreaking came after the recent presentation of the investment licence to the firm during Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s state visit to Singapore in February 2022.
The over 1,000-hectare industrial park will have smart technology operations from energy, waste and water usage, to traffic and security management.
Its 100-hectare first phase is also pre-qualified to attain Singapore Building and Control Authority’s Green Mark for industrial districts, making it one of the greenest and most sustainable workplace environments in Vietnam.
Aside from this, the park will have a 50-hectare onsite solar farm, which will offer grid reliability and sustainability benefits to large industrial tenants.
One of its first customers for the planned solar farm is Danish toy manufacturer LEGO Group. During the groundbreaking event, the Vietnamese government presented LEGO Group with the investment licence for a production facility on a 44-hectare site that represents more than $1.355b (US$1b) investment.
With this, the LEGO Group sought to operate its first carbon neutral factory that will be powered by renewable energy from VSIP solar farms and solar panels established onsite.
On the VSIP Binh Duong III masterplan, Sembcorp said it will also look into providing more sustainable solutions including micro-grid-integrated solar and battery storage, wastewater recovery and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
