ST Eng’g bags $1.4b contract for new MRT line project in Taiwan

ST Engineering will provide turnkey rail services for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line.

The Rapid Transit System Bureau of the Taichung City Government has awarded the $1.4b contract for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line project to ST Engineering’s Urban Solutions business.

This is part of a broader contract with consortium partners Alstom Transport S.A., CTCI Corporation, and Hyundai Rotem Company who will provide the signaling system, power supply system, and rolling stock, respectively.

ST Engineering Urban Solutions will lead overall project management and systems integration, provide rail electronics, and oversee the development of the above-ground train depot.

The 24.78-km fully automated Blue Line comprises eight elevated stations and 12 underground stations connecting the east and west of Taichung. The Blue Line will be integrated with the city’s existing Green Line.

The contracted scope covers a period of about 14 years and is expected to start in the second quarter of 2025.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
