
ST Eng’g bags $1.4b contract for new MRT line project in Taiwan
ST Engineering will provide turnkey rail services for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line.
The Rapid Transit System Bureau of the Taichung City Government has awarded the $1.4b contract for the new Taichung MRT Blue Line project to ST Engineering’s Urban Solutions business.
This is part of a broader contract with consortium partners Alstom Transport S.A., CTCI Corporation, and Hyundai Rotem Company who will provide the signaling system, power supply system, and rolling stock, respectively.
ST Engineering Urban Solutions will lead overall project management and systems integration, provide rail electronics, and oversee the development of the above-ground train depot.
The 24.78-km fully automated Blue Line comprises eight elevated stations and 12 underground stations connecting the east and west of Taichung. The Blue Line will be integrated with the city’s existing Green Line.
The contracted scope covers a period of about 14 years and is expected to start in the second quarter of 2025.
