Bolloré Logistics and L'Oréal bag SBR International Business Awards for Logistics

Bolloré Logistics and L’Oréal Singapore co-designed an innovative trucking solution in ASPAC.

Bolloré Logistics, a brand of Bolloré Transport & Logistics, is a global leader in supply chain management ranking among the world’s top 10 in transport and logistics with an integrated network of 607 offices in 106 countries.

L’Oréal, the #1 beauty company in Singapore, currently has 21 international brands across luxury, masstige, consumer and hair categories. With more than 550 employees and a Research & Innovation Centre, L'Oréal Singapore consistently wins awards as one of the top employers in the country, as well as sustainability awards for its commitment to environmental, social, ethical and consumer needs.

In May 2017, L’Oréal Opérations and Bolloré Logistics Singapore implemented the first innovative trucking solution in the Asia Pacific region that allows double-stacking of L’Oréal Products. The design phase lasted six months and involved teams on both sides to come-up with the most suitable solution. Since then, it has been used to transport L’Oréal Products on the cross-border road between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Bolloré Logistics and L’Oréal bagged the Singapore Business Review's International Business Award for Logistics for this innovation.

This system of eighteen collapsible racks was tailor-made for L’Oréal needs: specific dimensions that can fit both Euro and United States pallets and 100% made of steel to ensure the maximum solidity. These collapsible racks have been integrated into the road transporter’s trucks. As emphasized by L’Oréal, this success was an "important collaboration" with Bolloré Logistics and "is part of the concerted sustainability efforts that L’Oréal Singapore has been driving."

"From conceptualisation to practical innovation and implementation, overcoming operational challenges including space and turnaround time, cross-border deliveries are now much more sustainably efficient," L’Oréal said in a statement. "Sustainability is a cornerstone of L’Oréal’s Sharing Beauty With All program for positive impact on society and the environment, and this could not have been achieved without close collaboration with Bolloré Logistics’ team.”

The benefits have been significant both on operations improvement and on CO2 emissions for this route. It allows saving up to 15% on freight costs compared to a traditional trucking system. The innovative trucking solution also has an excellent stability during transport thanks to a lashing solution. The racks can support up to 500 kilograms per pallet, with pallets build-up to 1.1 meters height. In addition, this new trucking solution saves up to 30% of CO2 emissions — a significant improvement on the road to greener transportation. Both L’Oréal and Bolloré Logistics have been fully engaged on this topic for several years, implementing new innovative solutions to lower their environmental footprint throughout their supply chain.

The SBR International Business Awards was held on May 17, 2018 at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

This year's nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Ng Jiak See, executive director and head of corporate finance advisory at Deloitte Singapore & Southeast Asia; Choo Eng Chuan, ASEAN markets leader and partner, international and corporate tax services at Ernst & Young Solutions LLP; Toh Kim Teck, assurance partner at Foo Kon Tan LLP; and Henry Tan, managing director at NEXIA TS.
