URA wants accurate info on housing projects

Changes to the law may be in store for property developers on how they build and present showflats to potential buyers.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority is currently reviewing the Housing Developers Control & Licensing Act and Housing Developers Rules. This review aims to simplify licensing requirements for developers and provide more accurate and transparent information on housing projects, so as to help home buyers make informed decisions

Media reports said this is a response to a growing number of complaints from home buyers about property developers, especially on the use of misleading showflats.

Some of these proposed new showflat rules could require developers to display all the structural walls and columns and with accurate ceiling heights; use walls with the same thickness as in the actual housing unit; and clearly mark out the divide between the balcony and living rooms.

The URA said it would launch a public consultation in March on the proposed changes.
