Circuit breaker measures extended until June 1

The measures were originally scheduled to be lifted on May 5.

Singapore’s circuit breaker measures has been extended until 1 June 2020, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced in a public address this afternoon along with the Multi-Ministry Taskforce.

The extension came after the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the island jumped to 9,125 on 21 April, with 1,111 new cases reported just for the day. Twenty cases are Singaporeans or permanent residents, whilst the rest are work permit holders, most residing in foreign worker dormitories, according to data from the Ministry of Health.

The circuit breaker measures was originally scheduled to be lifted on 5 May.

Minister of Manpower Josephine Teo also announced that foreign workers will no longer be allowed to work. Essential workers amongst them will be given separate housing, she added.
