Chart of the Day: Over half of logistics SMEs expect negative outlook

They are anticipating more challenges on operating capital in the next six to 12 months.

This chart from Experian shows that 67% of SMEs under the transport/storage sector are expecting a worse business environment in the next 12 months, registering the highest percentage with such sentiment amongst industries.

This is followed by the hospitality/F&B sector at 60%, wholesale sector at 57%, and retail sector at 50%. Domestic facing sectors have been impacted by travel restrictions implemented in the wake of the outbreak, leading to waning numbers in tourist arrivals.

Meanwhile, a majority of SMEs in the manufacturing industry (74%), transport/storage (73%), hospitality/F&B (70%) and retail (70%) indicated potential challenges with operating capital in the next six to 12 months.

Half of the services sector (50%), followed by manufacturing (48%), hospitality/F&B (47%) and transport/storage (47%), expressed plans to apply for the credit measures introduced as part of the three supporting budgets.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
