Consumer prices jump 4.5% in April
The increase was a result of higher costs of transport, housing and food.
According to the Department of Statistics, transport cost rose 11.7 percent compared with April 2010 mainly due to higher prices of cars and petrol.
Meanwhile higher accommodation costs and electricity tariffs pushed housing cost up by 5.1 percent.
The Department said food prices rose by 2.9 percent largely due to dearer prepared meals, seafood, vegetables, meat & poultry, dairy products & eggs as well as fruits.
On a year-on-year basis, the MAS core inflation measure -- which excludes the costs of accommodation and private road transport -- was 2.2 percent in April.
