JS-SEZ expands flagship zones with focus on key industries

The JS-SEZ also plans to facilitate 50 projects in the first five years.

The Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) Agreement outlines several key elements aimed at fostering regional economic growth, including the expansion of Flagship Zone Areas (FZAs).

UOB said the new zones include Flagship G (Forest City), designated as a Special Financial Zone (SFZ) for financial services; Flagship H (Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex), focusing on manufacturing, energy, and logistics; and Flagship I (Desaru), targeting education, food security, health, and tourism.

The JS-SEZ also plans to facilitate 50 projects in the first five years and 100 projects within a decade, creating 20,000 skilled jobs.

In addition, the agreement proposes automation of immigration lanes, paperless clearance for goods, and enhanced transport links between Johor and Singapore.

It will also establish the Investment Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC-J), which is expected to simplify regulatory and operational requirements, providing a competitive edge for businesses operating within the JS-SEZ.

The partnership will also bring potential future initiatives, such as enhanced market access for financial institutions and passport-free QR code clearance for cross-border travel.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
