PMET makes up more than half of vacancies in 2022

Its share of vacancies rose to 56% in 2022 from 53% in 2021.

The majority of job vacancies recorded in 2022 were Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMET) positions, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) reported.

According to the MOM, PMET’s share of vacancies rose from 53% in 2021 to 56% in 2022.

Comparing the figure to 2019, MOM said the number of PMET vacancies almost doubled in 2022.

“This reflects manpower demand for skilled workers from the growth sectors of Information & Communications, Financial & Insurance Services, Professional Services and Health & Social Services,” the MOM said.

“Technology talents such as software, web & multimedia developers and software & applications managers continue to be highly sought after, as ongoing digitalisation trends have led to sustained demand for technological skills. Managers and executives in business development and sales as well as healthcare professionals also remained in demand,” the ministry added.

Whilst the share of non-PMET job vacancies dipped, MOM said the number of these vacancies increased in 2022 as employers sought to backfill positions, especially in Construction and Manufacturing. 

Overall, job vacancies declined in 2022 to 104,500; of the total number, 61% were replacement vacancies.
