JTC, VFT, Advario sign MoU for energy storage in Jurong Island

It aims to optimise the storage of excess electricity from renewables.

JTC, VFlowTech (VFT), and Advario Asia Pacific have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to scale up vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) capacity for clean energy storage on Jurong Island.

It aims to optimise the storage of excess electricity generated from renewables for peak demand use and manage fluctuations in energy consumption.

Under the MoU, the three will use Advario's tank infrastructure to scale VFT's VRFB technology to 40 megawatt-hours, about 25 times its current capacity. This will power over 3,000 4-room HDB flats daily.

Additionally, the vanadium electrolytes could be produced from recycled industrial waste, which enhances circularity on Jurong Island.

"Battery energy storage systems play an important role in ensuring the stability of our power grid. Jurong Island is a prime candidate to testbed smart grid operations and energy management,” Low Xin Wei, assistant chief executive in Markets and Systems Division at Energy Market Authority, said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
