How does a carbonara pasta with Thai flavor taste like?

Jus Delish Group opens a modern Thai fusion restaurant at Orchard Road.

From the team behind Gin Khao at East Coast Parkway comes Som Tam which prides itself in giving Thai food a ‘new leash of life’. Som Tam is a modern Thai fusion restaurant by Jus Delish Group that is all about the popular green papaya salad made up of five main ingredients: sour lime, hot chilli, salt, fish sauce and palm sugar.

According to the group’s managing director Ralph Liow, while green papaya salad was made popular for its strong spicy flavours in the past, it is now being catered to exude and complement all the distinct taste elements. “The word ‘Fusion’ described our dishes as we tailored to enrich our diners' taste buds with a burst of flavors where the East meets the West,” he said

The restaurant opened its door on September 2015 and is located along the bustling shopping haven of Orchard Road.

Som Tam envisions of becoming the best modern Thai fusion-cuisine serving restaurant in Singapore. It aims to delight their diners with a unique blend of traditional and modern Thai cuisine. The restaurant’s interior features a simple and minimalistic decor with a touch of lush greenery to reflect the hip sensibilities of the surrounding area and not forgetting the enchanting culture of the land of smiles.

The team spent an approximately half a million to put up Som Tam restaurant. As part of the future plans, Ralph said that they are gearing up to expand five more outlet for Som Tam and to have ten outlet for the Group by the 4th Quarter of 2016. He also enthusiastically said that they are set to open their third outlet named Gin Khao Bistro in the beautiful seafront of Sentosa Cove, Quayside Isle. The restaurant will be serving reinvented Thai food compliment with a bottle of beer or a glass of wine.

From Gin Khao to Som Tam

With the success of Gin Khao, the team decided to do a different cuisine to accommodate different group of diners. Gin Khao offers authentic Thai food whereas Som Tam offers reinvented modern Thai fusion food such as Burger, Pasta and Tom Yum Truffle Fries just to name a few.

Ralph’s four kids was his inspiration to start Som Tam. “At times, when we dine outside we were not able to find a suitable Thai restaurant to accommodate everyone’s palate,” he noted. As Thai food are usually sour and spicy, Som Tam gives one for example the option to select from either Tom Yum or Green Curry. While if one would like to have the best of both worlds of Western and Thai food they are able to choose dishes such as Kapi Beef Burger or Som Tam Style Carbonara Pasta.

Some of Som Tam signature dishes includes Kapi Beef Burger, Som Tam Carbonara Style Pasta, Tom Yum Truffle Fries, Som Tam with a choice of your own topping, After You Toast.
