Food and beverage sales slid 1.6% in July

Fast food receipts were notably slower.

Department of Statistics Singapore has released the latest data for sales of food and beverage services for July 2013, which showed that after seasonal adjustment, fast food outlets, restaurants and food caterers recorded decreases in receipts of between 2.7% and 4.1% in July 2013 compared to the previous month.

Fast food outlet receipts saw the biggest decline at 4.1%, and then followed by food caterers and restaurants (both down 2.7%).

On the other hand, turnover of other eating places (such as cafes and canteens) increased marginally by 0.9% in July 2013 over June 2013.

Compared to July 2012, restaurants recorded a 3.8% increase in receipts in July 2013. Similarly, turnover of food caterers and other eating places rose 2.7% and 0.9% respectively over the previous year.

Turnover of fast food outlets decreased slightly by 0.2% in July 2013 over July 2012.
