Cordlife offers enhanced compensation package to affected customers after tank incident

Affected customers will now get free cord blood storage until their child turns 26.

Cordlife Group Limited has rolled out an enhanced compensation package for customers affected by the storage tank failures, following a series of townhall sessions held on 23, 24, and 25 June 2025.

The update comes in response to feedback from customers whose cord blood units were stored in damaged or high-risk tanks.

Under the enhanced package, affected customers will now receive free cord blood storage until their child turns 26, offering up to five additional years beyond the existing contractual period. The company has also revised its warranty clause, standardising compensation at S$50,000 if a cord blood unit is found to be non-viable for an approved transplant, compared to the previous range of US$25,000 to S$50,000.

This revised clause now includes transplant needs for the donor’s biological siblings, provided the cord blood unit is a suitable match.

Additionally, Cordlife has introduced global financial coverage of up to S$50,000 for medical conditions requiring stem cell transplants, aimed at easing the potential treatment costs for affected families.

Customers who previously accepted the original offer announced in April 2024 will automatically receive the new benefits without needing to take any further action.

Formal letters outlining the enhanced package and acceptance steps have been sent to all eligible customers.

However, the company clarified that only those with cord blood stored in the affected tanks qualify for this enhanced compensation. Customers with unaffected units will continue under the terms of their existing agreements and are not eligible for the new package.

Despite these efforts, Cordlife stated that the financial outlook for the year remains uncertain.

Although operations resumed on 14 January 2025, the financial impact of the enhanced package, combined with ongoing recovery efforts, has created uncertainty over whether the company will return to profitability in 2025.

Cordlife also cautioned that there is no guarantee all affected customers will accept the revised offer, as the decision remains with each individual.
