MediShield Life coverage for pregnancy complications under review

Those who face difficulties arising from such matters were urged to tap on MediFund.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently studying how MediShield Life can aid to cover inpatient treatments for serious pregnancy and delivery complications, health minister Gan Kim Yong said in Parliament.

Speaking through a written response, the minister responded to a question by MP Christopher de Souza on whether the minister is looking into extending additional support for couples that are going through pregnancy complications.

“We will provide details when ready,” Gan said.

According to Gan, 8 in 10 pregnant women that got inpatient treatment relating to their pregnancy or delivery complication over the past three years in B2/C wards spent an out-of-the-pocket payment of less than $500 after subsidies and MediSave.

“Couples who face financial difficulties with their medical bills may approach medical social workers at our public hospitals for assistance, including tapping on MediFund,” Gan explained.
