New photon-counting CT scanner unveiled at Sengkang General Hospital

The technology uses up to 30 per cent less radiation compared to traditional scanners.

Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) has launched a new photon-counting computed tomography (CT) scanner, developed by Siemens Healthineers.

The NAEOTOM Alpha leverages photon-counting detector technology and delivers highly detailed submillimetre images with improved contrast.

Moreover, the technology directly converts X-ray photons into digital signals whilst using up to 30 per cent less radiation compared to traditional CT scanners.

In line with this, the new scanner enables early disease detection and intervention to improve care effectiveness and efficiency, said SKH CEO Teo Eng Kiong.

“With over 1,800 successful cases since November 2024, we are seeing how this technology helps us build a more resilient healthcare system that serves our patients’ needs today and tomorrow," Teo added.
