Sofitel in Sentosa launches world's largest So SPA

Future plans are finally revealed.

The Singapore Resort and Spa, managed by Accor, introduced So SPA which bills itself as the largest So SPA in the spa chain belonging to Sofitel. Launched on July 5 after a light rejuvenation, this new Spa is located at the heart of Sentosa in a 6,000-square-metre heritage site previously known as Spa Botanica.

According to Adrina Kay, director of So SPA, despite having branches worldwide, each So SPA experience is unique to its destination where treatments are inspired by native cultures and tailored according to local preferences.

So SPA is affiliated with The Singapore Resort and Spa Sentosa, a five-star luxury property on Sentosa Island which boasts elegant low-rise architecture and plush interiors. The So SPA in Sentosa features Outdoor Spa Gardens with float pools, cascading waterfalls, mud pools, meditative labyrinths and its very own swimming pool. This natural retreat is set in a lush, luxurious and exclusive environment at the heart of Sentosa with close proximity to the bustling urban comforts of the city.

“Sentosa is one of the top leisure destinations in Asia Pacific with approximately 19 million visitors entering annually. Looking specifically at our property, we have a large demographic of travellers from Japan and Russia looking for a unique spa experience away from the city. With our day spa and unique Spa Garden concept, our guests are able to spend an entire day enjoying the tropical climate and surroundings of Singapore while relaxing in an urban sanctuary. So SPA also caters to the locals and allows time-strapped individuals to fully indulge in a quick getaway without having to travel overseas,” said Adrina.

Adrina also shared So SPA in Sentosa’s four different pillars:
1. Fluidity - Moving away from the traditional perception of a spa as a sanctuary; instead, it is an inviting and socializing place
2. Intimacy - Nonetheless, it is still a very personal experience with the never ending will to learn
3. Cosmetology - To guarantee efficiency, refinement and anchor our French DNA
4. Authenticity- Based on best world traditions, the best ingredients and practices

According to Adrina, the Spa’s building story can be traced back to its roots of being a colonial pre-war building built in the 1930s which was previously used as a British Military Administrative Office. They plan for major renovations and hacking were abolished in order to preserve the historic value of the site. Adrina adds that some key features of the spa has been well-loved through the years, hence they maintained the look and feel of the gardens and facilities, only giving it a light facelift.

Though they were unable to comment the funding they spent in putting up the establishment, Adrina shared their future plans, “We will be tying up their treatments with key partners to strengthen our French DNA. The hotel will also undergo renovations and will be rebranded to Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa in 2015. Both the hotel and spa are owned by Royal Group Holdings and managed by Accor, the world’s leading hotel operator and market leader in Europe,” said Adrina.
