Flight bookings into Singapore for F1 race up 12.6%

Thanks to stronger arrivals from these 3 countries.

According to OSK, flight bookings into Singapore for Formula One (F1) Grand Prix are already up by 12.6% from last year. These F1 fans arrive earlier to soak up the festivities.

Comparatively, arrivals contracted by 1.9% in 2012 from its previous year. This year, the largest F1 supporters come from Australia, United Kingdom and Indonesia represents 17%, 8% and 6% of the number of tourists respectively.

Study also showed that the Mid-Autumn Festival holidays in Hong Kong and South Korea boosted the inflow to Singapore, in advantage of a long weekend. 

Angel Gallego, president of Amadeus (Asia Pacific) commented that “The sharp growth in the number of visitors flocking to Singapore for the F1 race underscores the significance of the event for the city's tourism industry.

Travel providers will do well to take note of changing traveller behaviour, such as the increasing propensity for travellers to book last minute, to fully leverage the opportunities present.
