Singapore clinches top spot in Global Muslim Travel Index 2015

21% of travellers here were Muslims.

Muslim travellers might soon take the spot vacated by vanishing Chinese tourists. Singapore has been named as the top non-Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destination in the Muslim travel market, with Muslims making up 21% of visitors to the city-state in 2014.

The Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2015 by MasterCard and CrescentRating showed that Singapore topped the list for non-OIC destinations, followed by Thailand, UK, South Africa and France.

Singapore came ninth in the overall GMTI beating many OIC destinations.

The study also revealed that in 2014, this segment was worth $145 billion with 108 million Muslim travellers representing 10% of the entire travel economy.

This is forecasted to grow to 150 million visitors by 2020 and 11% of the market segment with a market value projected to grow to $200 billion.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
