8 in 10 organisations want employees with tech-focused certification

Seven in 10 are having difficulty finding such employees.

As more organisations suffer breaches, employers are racing to fill critical IT positions; however, the cybersecurity skills shortage is making it hard for them to achieve this goal.

To address the skills shortage, employers are focusing on upskilling security professionals and seeking employees with tech-focused certifications.

Fortinet data showed that 88% of organisations now prefer to hire individuals with technology-focused certifications. Additionally, 85% would pay to get an employee a cybersecurity certification.

Almost all organisations in Singapore (96%) also recognise the benefits of certifications.

On the flip side, there are not enough professionals certified in Singapore, with more than 75% of organisations saying they are having difficulties finding people with certifications.

Not enough professionals are certified: While certifications are highly regarded, more than 75% of Singapore respondents said it is difficult to find people with certifications.

“The cybersecurity talent shortage is one of the top challenges putting organizations at risk. In today’s climate, organizations must choose products that introduce automation to offload overworked teams while continuing to focus on upskilling and cybersecurity training,” John Maddison, EVP of Products and CMO at Fortinet, said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
