#WomensMonth: Singapore takes lead in female CEO hiring

Thirteen per cent (13%) of CEO appointments in Singapore are going to women.

Singapore is emerging as a frontrunner in the global landscape for female CEO appointments, with companies increasingly embracing gender diversity in leadership roles. 

Data from a Heidrick & Struggles report showed that Singapore stands out significantly above the global norm, with 13% of CEO appointments in the country held by women. The figure nearly doubles the worldwide average of 8%.

Regardless of gender, Singapore companies prefer CEOs with well-rounded experience, having worked in other markets and sectors. 

In Singapore, 90% of appointed CEOs have prior C-suite experience, whilst 47% have cross-border experience.

“Organisations are strategically identifying experienced leaders with diverse backgrounds and cross-border experience, recognising their ability to navigate complexities across multiple geographies and drive innovation across various business lines," said Jiat-Hui Wu, Partner-in-charge at Heidrick & Struggles Singapore.

"The cross-border experience is increasingly important as Singapore companies look to expand beyond their home market,” added Wu.

Highlighting their commitment to openness and diversity, Singaporean companies also lead globally in terms of being most receptive (3%) to hiring CEOs without a degree.
