Kaplan to offer wider higher education courses to local and foreign students

Local and foreign students and working professional interested in taking up undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Singapore can look forward to wider options by next year, according to the Kaplan Singapore.

In a statement, Kaplan Singapore said it partnered with Murdoch University to offer a wide range of Murdoch courses, catering especially to the Asia Pacific market, in Singapore.

The courses are the most extensive range of Murdoch courses available in South-east Asia. For a start, students can choose among 26 programmes next year, from highly popular areas such as Communication, Hospitality and Education, to those that have previously not been offered in any university in Singapore, such as Sports, Security, and Environment-related courses. This includes the option of taking Double Majors programmes which are highly sought-after for Murdoch students.

The programmes will be introduced in three phases in 2011 – the first will commence in January 2011, offering almost 400 places for students through 16 initial programme offerings. The 16 programmes under Phase One have been registered with the Council for Private Education. Please refer to Annex A for details of the courses available.

Mark Coggins, Kaplan Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer said, “The partnership reflects the confidence that Kaplan Singapore and Murdoch University have in Singapore’s potential to grow into an international education hub. By offering a range of courses that are firmly attuned to the local and regional markets’ needs, we hope to provide local students, as well as international students who are keen to study here, more high quality education options that will give them a strong advantage in the workplace.”

Professor Gary Martin, Murdoch Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, said, “Murdoch University and Kaplan Singapore have had a very successful collaboration over the last five years and this new initiative is a natural progression towards providing students with a diverse range of educational choices across a wide range of disciplines. The University looks forward to a strengthened partnership with Kaplan to provide high quality degree courses in Singapore and to exploring further opportunities to provide high quality higher education courses to the Singaporean community and international students who visit Singapore to take advantage of its educational opportunities."

Courses to be launched for 2012 are currently still being discussed. Students will take the courses in the 21,000 sq feet Kaplan City Campus @ Wilkie Edge. Registration for the courses starts in October 2010 and students can find out more about the courses available at www.kaplan.com.sg.
