Around 70% of non-creative jobs now require creative skills: report

Over 50% of creative professionals have also adopted generative AI to enhance efficiency and innovation.

Technological advancements are reshaping skills in the Creative Industries, with 70% of "non-creative job" roles now requiring creative skills, according to SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).

Based on its report “Skills Demand for the Future Economy Report,” SSG cited that software developers need to understand design to make apps that are easy for people to use, saying “restaurant managers need skills in branding and attracting customers, not just in running a kitchen.”

It also noted over 50% of creative professionals are adopting generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Adobe Firefly to enhance efficiency and innovation.

There are about 150,000 Creative professionals in Singapore, one-third of whom work in companies categorised under “Creative Industries,” whilst two-thirds take on creative roles in other companies.

Meanwhile, skills related to Business, Financial Management, and People Management remain in high demand for creative industries jobs, whilst the demand for skills related to 'Operation Excellence' has been rising.

On the other hand, it also found that 71 skills, such as Agile Software Development, remain in high demand and are expected to stay relevant through 2025.

Additionally, 37 skills, including Design for Maintainability, have become more transferable across sectors, whilst 34 skills, such as Learning and Development, are projected to gain high transferability by 2025.

In analysing job requirements, the report highlighted the increasing demand for digital applications and tools such as Java, Python, and Google Analytics, with cloud-based platforms like Microsoft Azure and AWS Cloud9 experiencing significant demand growth.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
