Chart of the Day: Divorces, annulments in Singapore dropped to 7,241 in 2012

Versus 2011's 7,604 marital dissolutions.

According to Department of Statistics, the total number of marital dissolutions (comprising divorces and annulments) was 7,241 in 2012. This was down from the peak at 7,604 divorces and annulments in 2011.

The crude rate of divorce also decreased marginally from 2.0 divorces per thousand residents in 2011 to 1.9 in 2012.

Among married male residents, the general divorce rate declined from 7.6 per thousand married male residents aged 20 years and over in 2011 to 7.1 in 2012 (Chart 2.2). Similarly, the rate among married female residents fell from 7.2 in 2011 to 6.7 in 2012.
