Four in 10 Gen X and Baby Boomers want time off work for digital upskilling

Nearly 30% of Generation Y respondents also choose this option.

A study showed that most of the respondents, across all generations, are open to digitalisation and training to improve the workforce.

A Reeracoen, a human resources services provider, research revealed that 41% of Generation X and Baby Boomers preferred time off work to upskill in digital training. Others who chose this option are Generation Y (29%) and Generation Z (27%).

For external training, 30% of Generation Y and X prefer external training whilst 27% of Gen Zs prefer this option.
Generation Z (19%) and Y (27%) prefer scholarships for their training.

Asked about familiarity with upskilling platforms in Singapore, SkillsFuture is the most popular, with 73% of respondents across all generations saying they know of the platform. 

Despite this, Gen X and Baby Boomers prefer Udemy and Microsoft Learn, while Gen Y and Gen Z preferred platforms like Grab and Microsoft Learn.

The study garnered insights from 308 participants, with 39% (121 respondents) being Gen X and Baby Boomers, 38% (117 respondents) representing Gen Y, and 23% (70 respondents) from the Gen Z category.
