Singapore forms Tripartite Jobs Council to buffer AI worker transition
Key focus areas include expanded training and targeted support for at-risk roles.
The Ministry of Manpower, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and Singapore National Employers Federation will form a Tripartite Jobs Council (TJC) to support workers and businesses through the artificial intelligence (AI) transition.
The council, initiated by NTUC, will coordinate efforts across unions, employers and the government, complementing initiatives under the National AI Council.
“The TJC can bring together and scale tripartite capabilities under one roof as we take collective action to stand with workers of all collars,” said NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng.
Its key focus areas include support for enterprise workforce transformation alongside AI deployment, expanded training programmes, and targeted transition support for at-risk roles.
The council will also promote awareness of AI and encourage participation in related initiatives.
Further details on its composition and plans will be announced in the coming months.
Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng said the council reflects a joint effort to translate AI adoption into employment outcomes.
“We will help every worker maximise their potential, and every business can thrive by bringing out the best in their people,” he added.
